More than the spectacle of the circus, or the intricacies of the politics, however, Armin is bothered by the lingering deja vu at the things he sees here - a flash of insight, understanding how a particular device works, or a hint of memory, spotting a building or an outfit that seems familiar. It's obvious that he - and the rest of the older veterans - have been here before. His attempt at retrieving Hijikata's memories seems to confirm it, though they didn't uncover anything important.
Still, it bothers him more than it ever has before, this portion of his life he can't remember. Moebius had kept it at a distance before - he knows he doesn't want to remember more of that. But now that it's relevant, now he knows there are things he should remember that he just doesn't... it's frustrating, and even a little scary. And it's important - it could really make a difference, both to the Travelers and to this world.
So when it gets bad enough that he can't focus anymore, he retires to the hotel room he's rented, resolved to try again - but with his own memories this time. He doesn't know quite how to begin, but with everything he can do, it should be possible - should be easier, even, than digging into an unfamiliar mind.
He doesn't think to tell anybody what he's up to.
Safe and secluded, he closes his eyes and focuses his thoughts, delving into his own memories. It's a different experience, with so much psychic power at his direction, even if he's not quite sure how to apply it. He pushes against the fog of Moebius, thinking about the airship - the airship that should be red, red with brass fitting and sleek propellers. He remembers that much, but he needs to remember more. He reaches for the memory, fighting his way toward it with all his might, plunging into the shadows -

Min wakes up from a short rest after his arrival in the city - ready to head out and discover the truth about the rumors of strange folk in town. The same folk he had seen on the flight on the Zeitgeist, with their strange customs and technology, but who had vanished without a trace, never to be heard from again.
Until now.
Min is going to be the greatest scientist in the world, and for that he needs to learn everything. Not for himself - for her. He gently touches the crumpled paper tucked against his heart. She had sacrificed everything for him, and he can't let that go to waste. Some of these travelers have abilities he's never even heard of. He'll find them, and he'll find out their secrets - or die trying.
He smiles: a hard smile, more determination than true joy. It's a new day.
